Tom hired a layer to help create Zanmi Lasante and he gave one million dollars. Todd was on a board of advisers. Jim is a medical student. The four of them and Farmer would stay up late into the night talking. They talked about political issues and cultural differences.
In this chapter the political violence was disturbing. If you do one thing to make them angry they will come after you and destroy you. Aristide was the president but he was deposed. He tried to change the conditions and that was why he was taken out of power. A man named Chouchou made a pro-Aristide remark about the road conditions and a soldier heard him. He was beaten to death for it. It is disturbing to hear about how far some people will go to get the power that they want.
